Building an email list of people who follow and support you is essential to success in today's distracted world. You need people who are listening and that you can build a relationship with.
The first thing you need to start building your group of subscribers is to have a compelling offer that gets your ideal prospects to join your list. I use the word compelling because it is important that the offer be so good that people feel compelled to get in.
One big mistake that people make when trying to build an email list is to make an offer that is not very appealing. "Join my email newsletter" is not going to get many subscribers. Why does someone want another email newsletter?
You need to give them something that has so much benefit in their minds that they absolutely have to have it. They will only give you their email address if they feel like the benefit they are getting in return is much more valuable than what they are giving you.
We make this offer on a lead capture web page and the item we give away is called a Lead Magnet. Usually the lead magnet is a piece of information, like a free report, ebook or video. It can also be membership to a club or website that is valuable.
You also need to have tracking on your lead capture page so you can tell how well it is converting visitors into subscribers. You want to know how many visitors the page has received and how many people have signed up. From this, you can calculate your conversion rate and work over time to get better and better conversions.
