One of the most important things a marketer can understand to be successful is what is going on in the mind of their ideal customers. Even established and successful businesses have often lost track of it. They do not know their market and their prospects.
It is essential to KNOW what's going on in your market. You can't GUESS about it.
You need to join the conversation that is already going on their head. Most marketers try to make their prospects think about their products. The best marketers figure out what their customer is already thinking about and insert their product into those thoughts.
You might be curious - "How do I get into their minds to figure out what they are thinking about?"
Well, you get into the mind of your prospects by talking to them and thinking about things from their perspective. What are the worries that keep them up at night? What do they think about when they first wake up in the morning? What is the biggest problem they have in their business?
You get it by taking the time to think about it, and you don't get it by guessing or making assumptions that they are just like you.
A big mistake everyone makes is they presume that other people think the way they do about things. They don't. They may think very, very differently about things.
Instead of creating some influence technique, you try to figure out what is it that motivates and interests that person. What are their fears? What do they desire most? How can you take what you have and meet those needs, eliminate their pains, or increase their pleasure?
If you take the time to do this right, then your prospects will wonder how you know what is going on in their heads. It's like magic!
