Building an email list will not bring you success if you are not communicating with your subscribers. You need to send at least 3 emails to your list every week. Your messages must be valuable, educational and interesting. No one reads boring content.
I used to send 3 to 7 emails to my list every week, but in the past month I was sending one message per week. Some weeks went without any email at all. There are few reasons for that.
First of all, I switched my offline job. This was a kind of expanding my comfort zone. Now, I have a lot more offline things to think about and therefore less "brain space" to work on my online business. I needed some time to adapt to the new situation.
Secondly, I started a new online project which will expand my comfort zone even more.
And...
I was experiencing resistance within myself against working on the project. This made it harder to focus as much on my online work as I usually do.
I had a discussion about this problem with my coach. Today, I want to tell you one idea from that call that had a big impact on me.
Whenever you do work outside of what is "normal" or "comfortable", or any point where you are doing something new, there is a risk of failure or rejection. Your body resists the work and says : "You really don't need to do it right now". This is the "Resistance" talking.
The things that have the biggest "Resistance" are the things that we most need to do. The things that we do need to do are always the hardest to do because they are outside of our "comfort zone".
Usually, when you finally do something that you have been putting off, it's like a release. "Why did I wait so long? It wasn't that hard".
The longer you wait the harder it gets because you come up with more and more reasons for not doing it in your head.
The feeling of "I really just don't want to do this" is actually the indication that you really NEED to do it.
It's normal. Anybody doing anything interesting runs into that same problem.
Being able to fix it requires that you first realize what you are fighting. It is the "Resistance" that everyone feels. You simply have to start doing the work, taking small steps that you are still able to take.
When you catch yourself procrastinating about something, just tell yourself "It's not me, it's the "Resistance". Instead, you should thank the "Resistance" for letting you know what is important to do right now".
Take this approach to switch your procrastination into your best friend and a guide.
In my next email I will tell you more about the new project I was procrastinating about and finally started working on it.
What are you procrastinating on today? No matter what it is, if you want to talk about it, just hit reply.
