Last week, I listened to an interesting podcast between Jeff Goins and Nir Eyal where they talked about how to stay focused and avoid distractions that can stop you from making progress.
The goal is to become Indistractable. You cannot be distracted.
In today's world, it is so easy to get distracted from doing the work that will truly lead you to where you want to be. You know that you should be writing an email to promote your products, but you are distracted by something someone said on Facebook, for example. There are so many distractions that are constantly trying to take away your attention, especially if you have the notifications
turned on in your phone.
The reason you get distracted is because the work that you need to do is not comfortable and probably doesn't give you a positive feedback right away. You don't feel like writing that email because it may be outside your comfort zone and sending it may not give you an instantly positive return. Checking to see if someone sent you an email or left you a message on Facebook does give you a
nice feeling quickly.
This is why it is so important to become Indistractable, if you want to change your life for the better or get more results in your life. Distraction is the opposite of traction. You will not have traction in making progress on your goals if you allow yourself to be distracted.
If you planned on writing emails all morning, and instead you watched television, then you were distracted. Progress was not made on your goals because you did not do what you had planned.
If you want to become Indistractable, then you need to create a plan for your day and then stick by it. Schedule your day so that you have appointments with yourself to work on all the important projects you are trying to get traction on. Schedule your work time. Schedule your exercise. Schedule your family time. Then ... follow the plan.
Don't let anything pull you away from what you are supposed to be working on. Turn off the sound and notifications on your phone. Close the Gmail window so you aren't tempted to check your email. Definitely turn off all social media when you are working. Find a place to work where family distractions will be kept to a minimum.
Become Indistractable and you will start to see real traction in your business, your health, and your relationships.
