People like to think that starting your own business means you are just working on fun things all day long. Unfortunately, that is not the case. There are lots of jobs you have to do that you don't like.
It's just like any other part of your life. There are things you want to do and things you don't want to do. Even the things you don't want to do have to get done though.
For me this week, one of those things was going through Asana, which I use to organize all my information and projects, and cleaning it up. I had built up lots of ideas and projects that were a jumble of information. It is my online "junk drawer".
I had been putting off cleaning it up, but I had to get it done this week. It is important to realize that for tasks you are avoiding, you are probably never going to "feel" like doing it. If you are waiting for inspiration, then you need to understand that it is probably not coming.
Your willpower is generally limited each day. You use it up whenever you are forcing yourself to do something you don't want to do. That means you need to choose wisely on what you will spend your willpower on today. It is also strongest first thing in the morning, so doing the task you dread early in the day will make it much more likely to get done.
I use the Three Wins - Three Tasks approach. I have just three tasks that I want to accomplish each day. I get up and immediately do the most important one, when my willpower is highest. Then the second and the third. I have chosen the tasks the night before to be the ones that if I only get those three things done it would still be a productive day.
I suggest that you take the approach of doing the hardest things first thing and realizing that just because you don't feel like doing something doesn't mean you shouldn't do it anyway.
