They don't do the work.
They are looking for an easy way, a shortcut, a magic button. A "guru" that somehow will tell them the step by step plan to a successful business and lots of sales.
They don't want to spend the time to truly understand the program they are trying to sell or the people they are trying to sell it to. They want "copy and paste" riches.
The best marketers like Gary Halbert or John Carlton did the opposite thing. They lived it and became obsessed by it. They did a lot of work researching and collecting every fact about their products. They got inside the head of their prospect. Their results were so astonishing because they did the work to write copy that sells.
One product Gary Halbert sold was a high-ticket product which cost $5,000, which was a lot more 20 years ago than it is today. He sent a direct sales letter in the mail to just 1,000 contacts and got 70 replies. He ended up with 5 buyers for a $25,000 profit. In another promotion, he sent 800 letters and made $750,000. He knew how to get results, which is why they called him the
"Prince of Print"!
He advised marketers to prepare a 15 page long "Fact Sheet" about a product you want to sell. List absolutely everything about the product. What are all of its features? What benefit does each of those features bring to the buyer? How does owning the product make the buyer feel? What are all the reasons that someone would want to buy the product?
Let's assume you are going to promote a traffic site. You can use a generic copy provided by the owner, which doesn't get any attention because it's impersonal and has been seen too many times.
The better way is to write your own copy with a compelling headline to promote it.
Do your research. Learn everything about the site. Who is the owner? How many members? How old is it? How many credits you get as a free member? How often can you mail? What benefits does an upgrade bring? What are testimonials from the top marketers (authorities) in your niche? What are payment options? What unique features does it have that makes it different or
better?
You collect every detail and put it into your "Fact Sheet". Only you see the sheet, so you put everything even things that are seeming negative at a first glance. Remember, some facts that seem a negative to you could be a positive ones to the other people. When you write a copy you look into the sheet and easy take each thing that can be useful.
This kind of research allows you to deeper understand a product that you trying to sell. It also helps you to understand the people that you are going to sell the product to. The person who understand the product and the motivations of those who buy it, will be the one who gets the sale.
