Another way that you can sell without having to use hype is to let other people do the selling for you. I am not talking about outsourcing your selling process. I am talking about social proof.
Social Proof is a term used by Robert Cialdini in his book Influence and it is one of the most important tools of persuasion. Simply stated, people like to do what other people are also doing.
One form of social proof is testimonials. If you share with your prospect who is interested in buying your product or program, the testimonials of other people like them who have had success with it, they will be more likely to buy. Getting and sharing testimonials in your marketing is a very effective way to make more sales without having to use hype.
In addition to actual testimonials written by other customers, you can also use stories and case studies in your marketing. Give examples of other people like them who have gotten the results they want using your system. Even if not written by the customer, these case studies and stories lead to more people wanting to join.
The last kind of social proof you can use is more subtle. If you talk about how many other people are taking the action you want them to take, then they will be more likely to take that action too. If you let them know that 3 people bought the product yesterday alone, they will be more likely to buy.
Notice that in my examples, I always said "people like them". It is important that they see your examples as proof that "they can do it". If someone with a lot of experience had success, but the person you are speaking with has no experience, then that will not be as compelling as if another beginner had the result.
Using social proof is very powerful because people want the validation from other people that they are making a good decision.
