One of the reasons that many people don't take action on writing regular emails to their list, or posting content on social media is that they feel like they have nothing to say. They don't see themselves as experts, so they feel like they have no voice. How can they teach when they have not learned everything themselves yet?
The key to overcoming this barrier and publishing content on a regular basis is an idea I learned from Gary Vaynerchuk of VaynerMedia, one of the most followed people in marketing online. He states that we should "document, not create".
What he means is that you are not writing a how to book on marketing that you are sharing with your audience. You are documenting your journey. It is the same no matter where you are starting. You can always talk about what you are doing and the lessons you are learning along the way.
In my last few emails, I have been sharing the lessons learned from my "Amazing Credits Giveaway" promotion which has been working well for me. I am learning as I go and hope that sharing it with you is helping you to do so as well.
I am documenting my journey, with the ups and downs. I do not feel like I have to always present this perfection in everything I do. Everyone makes mistakes and if I share mine with you, then it helps.
Sharing your journey is also much more interesting than just reciting facts and lessons. It is personal and often done like a story. People love to read stories.
Don't wait to start sharing your story. Write an email today to your list and let people know what you are working on and what lessons you are learning. Post that content to Facebook or other social media where business-minded friends might follow you.
Let me know if you want help building your list. I am here for you.
