I often tell people about how important the 80/20 rule is in their marketing. It applies to almost every area of life, but understanding how it affects your marketing and traffic is essential.
80% of your signups will come from just 20% of your traffic sources.

Last week, I received 80 new signups for my lead capture page. 62 of those 80 signups came from the top 21 traffic sites. I received traffic from 140 different traffic sites, but just 21 of them accounted for those 62 signups.
That means that 77.5% of my signups came from just 15% of my traffic sources.
Do you know what your top traffic sites are or are you just advertising everywhere you can think of and just hoping for the best?
Here is how you can use that information.
If I had a busy week at work and had less time to spend on my online business, I know that I can stop using 85% of my traffic sites and still get almost all the signups I would have anyway. I can get great results with 85% less effort.
If I have extra time to spend, then I know that if I concentrate on how to get more traffic from those 15% of best converting sites, I will get a lot more signups than if I spend time on the other 85% of sites.
If I have some money to invest, then upgrading my account at the 15% of sites that are the best converting, will probably give me a lot more signups for every dollar invested.
No matter how much traffic I receive, or what I am promoting, everytime I analyze the numbers it is always close to 80/20.
