In my last email, I talked about how I am able to be a top referrer for dozens of programs using an email list of just over 1,000 subscribers. If you missed the email, you can still read it by clicking here.
My list is small and responsive because I only keep subscribers who are actually paying attention. Many beginning marketers get lost in their goal for a BIG email list, rather than a responsive one. Total list size doesn't matter. How many clicks you get on every email you send does!
This is one of the most common myths about email marketing that people fall victim to. There are others, though.
Often, marketers get caught up in the features or specifications of an email management program or auto-responder, but miss the two most important ones.
It doesn't matter if you can have unlimited subscribers at your auto-responder, no matter what the sale page for the program tells you. As I noted above, if you remove the non-active subscribers from your list, you can be an industry leader with an audience of 1,000 subscribers. If you are making money, then you don't mind paying for the tool that actually makes it all
possible. Both AWeber and Get Response let you have hundreds of subscribers for under $20 a month.
Another myth that beginners get caught in is that auto-responders are a commodity and that only price matters. There are two key factors you need to take into account when choosing an auto-responders that most marketer's don't look at.
The most important factor in choosing an auto-responder is whether your emails are going to get delivered to the inbox, rather than the spam folder. Many of the common auto-responders that beginning marketers use will end up with almost all of your email in spam folder, never to be seen again. Big programs like AWeber or Get Response have relationships with the big email providers, so
you can count on better deliverability.
Remember in the last email when I told you I kept my list very clean, so I am not paying for those not interested and hurting my reputation with GMail. You can't do that if your auto-responder doesn't allow you to search for the non-active members. Almost no entry level programs, like Traffic Wave, AIOP, and others have that capability. However, more professional tools like AWeber and Get
Response do.
Don't waste your time building a list on the wrong platform. Get a free trial of Get Response or AWeber and use the tools the pros do, but without the hard learning curve.
