I wrote to you on New Year's Day about setting good resolutions and goals for 2019. If you missed it, you can still read it by clicking here
The biggest problem with most people accomplishing their goals is that they lose focus. Staying focused as much as possible is critical to hitting those goals you set.
Here are a couple of tricks that will help you stay focused.
1. Post Your 3 Goals for 2019 All Around Your House
You want to constantly be reminded of what you need to be focused on. Read them first thing in the morning. Have them posted on the wall over your computer. Stick them to the fridge. You can even program alarms into your smart phone with text that comes up at certain times of the day to remind you of one of your goals. Imagine your phone reminding you every morning to Build Your List!
2. Have a Phrase to Help You Refocus
It is easy to let your attention slip away. When you notice that you are starting to focus on something you shouldn't, have a phrase that you say to yourself that signifies that you are refocusing. I like using "Back to Work!" If I find myself spending too much time on Facebook for example, I say "Back to Work!" and then immediately start doing something to help me accomplish my
goals.
You can use the smartphone alarm trick from #1 to send yourself this refocus phrase at times during the day when you know that it is hard to focus.
3. Plan Your Day in Time Blocks
Don't let yourself drift from one unimportant task to another. Decide the night before exactly how much time you are going to spend on each major task tomorrow and put it on the calendar. 7 AM to 8 AM - Write Emails, 8 AM - 9 AM - Breakfast, and so on. Then stick to the schedule.
There is an important phrase that you should live by. It is "Discipline Equals Freedom". When you discipline yourself to do the important actions, then you will have more freedom. Living on a schedule may seem restrictive, but it can make the difference between setting the schedule yourself or living by the 9 to 5 schedule of your offline job. At least with your own business, you get to set the
schedule!
