Everyone on earth only has 24 hours in the day. The
difference between those who accomplish great things and those who do not is usually about how they spend those hours.
It isn't just a question of spending more hours working, like a workaholic. Often the problem is spending the hours on the right things and being super effective when you are working.
You can have a great business idea or strategy, but you need to actually take action and move it forward before it will create any positive change for you or your customers.
Over the next couple of emails, I am going to share with you some of the tricks I use to make sure that every work hour I have is the most effective possible.
In my last few emails, I spoke about how important it is to make sure that you are using the best sites and tools that are actually getting results. I also talked about making sure that you stay focused on your plan and don't get sidetracked by shiny objects. I won't go over those again here. If you want you can see those emails here and here.
To be effective and get the most done with the time you have, you need a system. Your system may not be the same as
mine, because different things work for different people, but most systems have a few common elements.
The biggest thing to help you maintain focus and work on the key tasks that make your dreams a reality is to create a place and time to work where distractions are minimized.
It is
so easy to get side-tracked when you smart phone bings with a new email or Facebook update. How about if your child or spouse are trying to talk to you while you are working? Hard to keep focused on the hard things you really need to be thinking about!
Try to create a work environment that is conducive to getting work done. Quite and no distractions. Work in another room or the basement.
Get away from the activity. Also, try putting your phone in another room when working so you won't feel like you need to be constantly checking it to see what is new.
Set aside scheduled time to work on your business that is agreed on by other members of the family so they know not to interrupt you.
There is another secret to scheduling your time that we will talk about in my next email on Monday. Watch your inbox!
