I had a conversation about tracking safelist traffic with one of my online friends. They asked a reasonable question every marketer interested in

Tracking is a broad topic and there are several ways to do it. But there's a nasty limitation in the safelist world.

Your ads shown in iframes, and world-class tracking systems like Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel ignore them. They don't count visits from iframes, and even if they occassionally do, they don't return the actual source from which the visitor came.

That makes these free professional tools  unusable for traffic sites.

That also forces you to find workarounds and spend your valuable time on things that should be provided by safelists. At least on those you pay for.

Some of them have tracking features embedded in your affiliate link.

When somebody joins the site through your link, you can see the source they come from. Just change "Keyword" or "Sitename" to tags you can understand.

However, that way you need an additional tool that tracks visitor number like LeadsLeap or HitsConnect. 

This only work when you promote these sites, not your offers.

Keep reading, I'm going to rant even more.

There's another thing that happens in the safelist world. 

It is stubborn reluctance to share with you the email addresses of your referrals, as if they are site property.

That's why you can't track deeper, identifying those who upgraded or purchased traffic.

Even though I find knowing the sites's buyers is not as critical for your business as knowing who bought from YOU, I'm still uncomfortable with this limitation.

Just think! For"security reasons", you can't communicate with your best leads.

Seems like theft, doesn't it?

Ok, that's the end of the rant.

Next is the most interesting and positive thing.

There are many sites that share all the info about your referrals. Among them are Mailer.Gold, List Joe, Herculist and many others.

I also love the VMFY and FAFY sites, which provide tracking and buyer info. Even if it's not an email address, you can still can communicate with your referrals through the mail downlines feature.

If you spend a little time, you can even guess who is who by their usernames. Below is an excerpt from the downlines report at VMFY:
