A lot of people trust site rankings. They join a site because they see it is popular.
The problem with site rankings is that those who vote don't track their traffic. They use sites blindly, and never know where their sales and signups are coming from.
Sometimes they use the site for years. It becomes their rut. They like the site design or it's easy to earn credits on it... and they vote for it.
In business, you can't trust such data.
A couple of years ago I completed the Google Analytics course.
Thanks to that I could create a very good tracking system. I knew almost everything about my site visitors. Most important I was able to tell where my signups and sales are coming from.
My numbers were a real eye-opener. Some popular sites converted worse than 3,000 visitors to 1 signup. But some sites converted better than 50 visitors to 1 signup.
Unfortunately, after one of the Google Analytics updates it doesn't count all traffic from mailers.
I use HitsConnect now. It is a tracker which fits all safelist marketer needs.
Remember, your goal isn't to get visitors... it is to get signups and sales. You can't trust ratings. You have to track your traffic to know which site brings you results and which doesn't. HitsConnect tracks well.
